Site-Based Council is a blending of site management and planning (decisions are made at levels closest to the issue being addressed) and collaborative decision-making (individuals affected by and responsible for implementing decisions share in making decisions). The Council is a process in which the people who effect and are affected by decisions participate in the making of those decisions. Generally speaking, individuals affected by that process are students, parents, teachers, classified employees, administrators, and the community. Their purpose in serving on Site-Based Council is to enable school improvement. Members of Site-Based Council have a commitment to increasing student achievement and support the school’s mission, goals, and objectives.
